That Black Girl

Where from does she come; whose daughter is the girl?
Flowers drop from her mouth when she begins her say
She is golden in etiquette; she is courteous to one and all
She is better than most in studies, in values she stands tall
She is just and fair when she runs on the ground for a play
She is an emerald of the earth, on humanity’s head a pearl

Why does this culture think beauty lies in white skin?
A girl who brings wealth is thought best for the ring
Notions wrong based on untruth rule the naïve minds
The heart with wise eyes true beauty everywhere finds
False concepts lead their carriers to sorrowful swing
The unfortunate find at last their life in unsavory bin
