Whose Daughter is She?

Whose daughter is she?
Lying bleeding and bruised
Among brambles and bushes
Her clothes torn and tattered
Nakedness crying out to heavens
And her dignity silently sobbing
Whose daughter is she?
From which family is she?

Whose sister is she?
She was probably returning home
From her school or college
Her books and notebooks bloodied
Like their companion beside
The lifeless dreams lie scattered
On the village’s unkempt earth
The winds hovering around quizzes
Whose sister is she?

She is a daughter yours and mine
She is a sister ours and thine
From our unfortunate human family she is
She is the symbol of our dignity
Our joyful dreams of future she is
Were they hungry animals from the wild
that so cruelly outraged our dignity
and devastated our dreams?
Or, were they devils devoid of humanity?
Two-legged sons of their shamed mothers?

“Justice, justice, we demand justice!”
Cries every atom of the village
Justice will surely come sooner or later
But our daughter dear will never return!!
Our dreams will not walk on the village path again
Spreading smiles in our drudgery
Lighting lamps of hope in our dark huts
For the lamp has been blown out!!!
