Gradually, a miracle happens
A fertilized ovum
Transforms into a human form
In a woman’s womb
Gradually, moment by moment
It glides to its climax
Cells into tissues
Tissues into muscles
Nerves and bones
The brain, the liver, the heart
Begin to perform their appointed tasks
So dutifully, gradually
Leading the beloved to see
The light of the day!
Womb to cradle
Cradle to floor
Floor to field
Field to school
School to college and
Then college to career
A drive called ambition
Pushes the ovum to lands unknown
Inland and beyond the ocean waves
To success in distant atmosphere
In States or somewhere
Meanwhile, the womb craves
To embrace the ovum again
To cradle it in her lap
To kiss and caress it
Though it was a pain to form it
she remembers only joy
In holding it close to her breast
But the ovum still gives her pain
Gradually, it has transformed into
A Non-Returning Ovum!
