Can you write a poem on me, Papa?
The orphan child entreats
A question simple and blameless
The poet downright beats!
Verses on birds, flowers, nature
I’ve written a hundred
On the scenes and truth
Seen around me spread!
What can I write on a child
Whose father is lost?
Whose mother has deserted her
To make of her own life most!
She’s fallen in my lap
A gift of God from above
Her I have to care of dearly
On her pour milk of love
Yes dear child, I’ll write sure
A poem on you this good day
For in you I find my Lord dear
Send blessings plenty
our way!
