Groans from Darkness

Groans and cries
Clearly I did hear
Emanating from darkness
Dried stiff of cheer
Whose soul in torment
Whose heart is in pains?
Is there a mind somewhere,
Troubled in sorrowful chains?

 It was a torturous night
Sticky and sultry hour
It was dark all around
Of the unfaithful, deserting power
The fans were silent and still
The humid sweat broke my sleep
I walked out to the verandah
For a piece of rest to keep

Looked out of the window
In search of a little comfort
In vain, that was the moment
Voices floated to disconcert
O Father, who art in heaven
What is Thy will for me?
Are there groans and sighs
I fail in my selfishness to see?

If There was a Wee River Nearby

If there was a wee river nearby
On its bank I’d walk,
In company of the cool breeze
With the waves I’d talk.

If there was a wee river nearby
Beside my home flowing,
I’d see the dancing sunrays
Upon the water glowing!

If there was a wee river nearby
And some trees on its bank,
I’d sit leaning against a trunk
Weave words to God, to thank.

If there was a wee river beside
Even if small like a stream,
It’d add new cheer to my life
To my eyes a fresh beam!

I don’t want any present
For my next birthday, Lord,
Give me a little river, if you please,
To sing me daily in sweet chord!

With Majesty Endowed

What do you expect

Of a doctor who passed his tests

Using underhand process

Won’t he be a peril to life

When the sick approach him for cure?

Of surgeries won’t he make a mess?

What havoc can a driver wreck?

He who acquired his license

By means of grease

He might break limbs

Send pedestrians flying

Compelling their travel to cease!

Will the thief stop stealing

When in majesty bestowed

To occupy the throne?

Yes, because he might consider

All wealth and treasure

To possess and enjoy as his own!

Another scene may present

That he might continue his trade

Troubled by a legitimate fear

That all his good luck

Might come to a dismal end one day

Then he’d have enough to cheer!

Selfie

Selfie, O Selfie!
What an invention!
What a luxury!

Marvelous
The pool in the palm
For the new Narcissus!

A magic eye
To capture my gesture
Over social media to fly!

A fantastic show
Serving its master and mistress
A slave to stand or bow!

Can make self sink
In deepest deathly waters
At the quickest wink!

 O beautiful superstar
The craze of the time
Wonder how long, how far!

They're accusing Us

They’re accusing us of littering
 the plastic shreds
On the play ground
What wrong did we do?
What crime did we commit?
Us guilty they’ve found!

The whole village is strewn
With plastic pouches
Of all colors and hue
I selected one with smell
Of my special taste
To play under the sky in dew.

Me and my friends in moonlight
Played “flesh stealing” game
While we guard the homes
That’s what we dogs do
Do they want us to stand still
Like silent lifeless gnomes?

You understand our language
So to you we pour down
The sorrows of dogs’ life
In our short span on earth
Do we have much luxury?
Some pats and bones after much strife!

If they care for plastic pouches so
Why don’t they bury them
Under soil out of reach?
But after years of devotion
I know, they love to litter
Be it play field or beach!
