The Arch of Heaven

This morning I saw hope

Written large on the sky

When the night ran west

the arch beaconed on high.

The arch signaled from high

When  hymns from trees rose

On my heart I savored joy

as heaven’s voices sang close.

I was lifted above though

I stood on the hard earth

Softly within my tender soul

A new me has taken birth.

The Earthen Lamp

The sun is about to return home
A fateful night is about to fall
Darkness descends to rule us
Until the morning birds call

My life may set with the disc
Or with midnight Hunter’s rise
With leaning Scorpion perhaps
Or may spring a happy surprise

Until then my mind is mobbed
With whirlwinds of thought
My children, my wealth, my plan
The houses and land I bought

Who will inherit the empire?
My children who are not mine?
Their spouses who farther stand?
My mind’s made, what’s will divine?

None is worthy to follow me
None noble well for the throne
Will my ideals, visions, dreams
With my departure die be gone?

To whom shall I pass in peace
The torch that burns in me?
Who will shine the light I lit
In times future for all to see?

“If it pleases you entrust me,”
Says a humble lamp earthen
“I mayn’t burn as brightly as you
In humble way, I’ll carry on.”

The Haunted Railway Station

The railway station of Begunkodar
Is shut, many know, for years
It is haunted by a female ghost
Whose apparition has instilled shivers

She is seen near the station
Sometimes walking on the tracks
The white clad lady glides around
In the station that in staff lacks

A station master and a gateman
Met their death in manner strange
Since then the place has acquired
A name awesome beyond range

For fear of life no station master
Agrees to be here on prime post
Railway men make extreme excuses
To avoid playing host to the ghost

With Ayodhya hill behind, the station
Presents an amply eerie scene
No travelers you’d see on platforms
If through this station you’ve been

Creepers and shrubs freely grow
In the rooms animals roam at night
Trains still pass to west and fro
The drivers wary of the lady in white

Angels in Rain

It has been raining all night

Sometimes less, sometimes more

Little lakes have formed in the meadow

The trees are drenched to the core.

Though the pour has relented a while

The sky still wears the gloomy garment

By the looks of Varun, the rain god,

the showers will resume the torment.

The recess is a time good enough

In my groovy garden outside

Chorusing winged angels have descended

On all possible branches they ride.

Singing they are hymns after hymns

Of gratitude, worship and praise

Can I remain oppressed by my gloom

Failing my heart to raise?

Their faces are drenched like clouds

Their feathers like lakes

Their voices betrays a shiver

The merciless torrent makes.

They must have bore the dark

Hours and minutes in sufferings and sighs

Yet before the sun has steeped

They are ringing the silent skies.

Conveying to the earth of mine

Tidings divine

Angels sublime

Pristine!

What's in Your Basket?

What’s in your basket, O morning?
What’s it do you bring?
Will you make the day mourn?
Will you make it sing?

Do you bring a celebration?
Is it fulfillment of hope?
Are there wrapped in glaze
Chaotic winds that grope?

The cock has crowed joyfully
And woken up the dreams
Step out to breathe in air
Beside fresh flowing streams.

Hear the symphony of birds
On the rapt mango groves
See the rays rising in the east
On the creatures God loves.

Raise your face up in joy
In trust lift your heart high
The Lord can melt your mountains
Though they’re heaped to sky.
